Hithadhoo, ADDU CITY - Latvian U15 team started their campaign of UEFA ASSIST U15 International Tournament after a comfortable win against Saudi Arabian U15 by 4-1 on Sunday.
Saudi Arabia took the lead after five minutes into the game played at Hithadhoo Stadium. Badr Waleed Alharbi escaped from the offside trap and shot it into the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-0.
At the half-hour mark, Latvia leveled the game from a set piece. Christer Volkovs received the free kick and leveled the game from a descent volley on the edge of the penalty area.
Latvia took the lead for the first time after an own goal from Saudi substitute player Turki Mashhour Alghumayl.
The European side increase the margin just after the beginning of the second half. Bruno Melnis was on the goal line when Saudi keeper failed to clear the corner kick from Latvia and Bruno changed the score to 3-1.
Latvia scored their fourth and final goal of the game in the 72nd minute from a corner. Niks Sliede scored from a long range shot into an empty net while keeper was not in the right position to save it.
Maldives will play against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday at 1600 hours at Hithadhoo Stadium in their second game of the tournament.
