Dededo, GUAM - Ibrahim Mahudhee's first half goal was enough to secure a 1-0 away win against Guam in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Qualifiers second round campaign off to a positive start.

Maldives started the match without their key players due to various reasons. Midfielder Ibrahim Waheed was forced to leave the camp due to the sudden loss of his five family members in a tragic accident. Hussain Nihan and keeper Hussain Shareef were unable to travel to Guam with the team due to the unavailability of obtaining US Visa.

Maldives dominated the early proceedings and went ahead just before the half-hour mark at the Guam Football Association Complex through Ibrahim Mahudhee's strike on Thursday.

Asadhulla Abdulla and Hussain Sifaau missed some good opportunities to increase the margin.

Guam could not find their way back into game in the second half as Maldives secured three valuable points.Guam overcame a one-goal first leg deficit to defeat Bhutan 5-1 in the first round of the Asian Qualifiers.

Guam threatened early in the game with Marcus Lopez's run down the right flank in the 15th minute but he was quickly dispossessed by the Maldives defence.
